Stage Iv Vulvar Cancer Ajcc V6: Disease Bioinformatics
Vulvar Cancer originates on the outer surface of the female genetalia as the vulva is defined as the area of skin that surrounds the urethra, vagina, clitoris, and labia. Vulvar cancer typically begins as an itchy sore. There are two types of vulvar cancer: vulvar squamous cell carcinoma and vulvar melanoma. Vulvar cancer affects women of any age, though most commonly diagnosed in older women. Risks include being exposed to human papillomavirus (HPV), smoking, being infect with HIV, and having lichen sclerosus. Treatments include removing the cancer and a margin of healthy tissue, partial vulvectomy, radical vulvectomy, extensive surgeries for advanced cancers, radiation, chemotherapy, lymph node removal, and reconstructive surgeries. Stage IVA vulvar cancer can be divided into three subgroups: T1, T2, and T3. In T1, the cancer is found in the vulva and/or the perineum. The cancer is T2 when it begins to grow in the anus, vagina, or inner urethra. In T3, the cancer has advanced beyond tissues near the bladder, rectum, pelvic bone, or upper urethra. However, at this point, the cancer has not spread to distant sites.
