Stage Iiic Breast Cancer Ajcc V6: Disease Bioinformatics
Breast cancer begins in the breast typically as a ductal carcinoma and can affect men or women. It is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer of women in the United States. Risk for developing breast cancer increases with age, family history, gene mutations on BRCA1 and BRCA2, obesity, radiation exposure, early onset of puberty, never having kids, postmenopausal hormone therapy, and excessive alcohol intake. Treatment for breast cancer includes: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, alternative medicine, and medications. In stage IIIC breast cancer, it may be operable or inoperable depending on its growth and development. Stage IIIC is considered the most progressed form of stage III cancer as it has spread to the skin of the breast or to various lymph nodes. However, this stage still maintains a relatively good prognosis as there are a variety of treatment options.
