Stage Ii Vulva Cancer Ajcc V6: Disease Bioinformatics
Vulvar cancer originates on the outer surface of the female genetalia as the vulva is defined as the area of skin that surrounds the urethra, vagina, clitoris, and labia. Vulvar cancer typically begins as an itchy sore. There are two types of vulvar cancer: vulvar squamous cell carcinoma and vulvar melanoma. Vulvar cancer affects women of any age, though most commonly diagnosed in older women. Risks include being exposed to human papillomavirus (HPV), smoking, being infect with HIV, and having lichen sclerosus. Treatments include removing the cancer and a margin of healthy tissue, partial vulvectomy, radical vulvectomy, extensive surgeries for advanced cancers, radiation, chemotherapy, lymph node removal, and reconstructive surgeries. In stage II of vulvar cancer, the cancer has grown outside of the vulva or perineum into the anus or lower third of the vagina. At this point, it has not spread to distant sites, lymph nodes, or organs.
