Stage 0 Pancreatic Cancer: Disease Bioinformatics
Pancreatic Cancer is an aggressive and quickly spreading disease where few symptoms exist until the cancer is very advanced, and because of this, pancreatic cancer has a poor prognosis even with early detection. It occurs when malignant cells form in the tissues of the pancreas, typically in the exocrine cells (the cells that produce digestive juices). Pancreatic cancer typically affects individuals who are African American, who are overweight, have diabetes, smoke, have pancreatitis, or have a family history of pancreatic cancer. Treatments for pancreatic cancer include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and clinical trials. In stage 0 of pancreatic cancer, also commonly known as pancreatic carcinoma in situ, the tumor is confined to the top layers of the pancreatic duct cells and has not spread to deeper tissues or outside of the pancreas.
