Salmonella Meningitis: Disease Bioinformatics

Meningitis causes inflammation of the meninges which is the protective membranes surrounding the in the brain and spinal cord. The inflammation is caused by an infection in the fluid surrounding the brain or spinal. Salmonella Meningitis is a very rare type of bacterial meningitis that usually affects newborns that are born prematurely. Salmonella Meningitis can be transmitted from reptiles to young children or immunodeficient adults. Antibiotics can be used to treat Salmonella Meningitis, but the mortality rate remains high among newborns. Salmonella Meningitis accounted for 0.9% of bacterial meningitis cases in newborns.
