The seizures can cause visual hallucinations, decreased vision, and involuntary eye movement. Occipital seizures can either occur spontaneously or by a visual stimulus, such as flashing lights. Occipital epilepsy can sometimes be confused with migraines, as it can also cause headaches and nausea. About 50 million people have epilepsy, with 80% of that population located in developing countries. It is possible to control epilepsy with medicine, but many cases may require surgery in order to relieve symptoms.
