Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder affecting the part of the brain that regulates sleep. People with narcolepsy frequently enter REM sleep within a few minutes of falling asleep. Narcolepsy effects both men and women equally and is widespread throughout the world. It mostly begins during a person’s childhood and is lifelong. Diagnosis of the condition can take a long time in most cases more than a year and sometimes as long as several decades because narcolepsy symptoms are often mistakenly linked to other sleep disorders or medical conditions such as depression.
