Lichen Disease can be categorized into two types: Lichen planus and Lichen sclerosus. Lichen planus is a disease that forms a rash on the skin or the mucous membranes. The cause is still unknown, but some think it is related to an allergic or autoimmune reaction. Symptoms of Lichen planus include mouth sores, skin sores, and hair loss and are treated with antihistamines and other medications to control the symptoms. Lichen sclerosus is a disease that causes white patches around the genitals. Lichen sclerosus can be treated with topical steroids.
