Herpes Simplex is a virus caused by either Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 or Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2. Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1, or oral herpes, is associated with infections above the waist. Sores around the mouth, cold sores, are the most common form of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1. Transmitted through kissing or sharing straws or tooth brushes, Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 has no cure. Although there are no treatments, the symptoms can be lessened with several medications.
