Chronic HBV carriers who are infected with Hepatitis D usually develop chronic Hepatitis D as well. When there are HBV-HDV chronic infections, there is a higher chance it will result in cirrhosis. The best preventative measure is to receive the Hepatitis B vaccine but there are also different treatment options which ultimately end with a liver transplantation. Symptoms of Hepatitis D do not appear for at least 30 days after the carrier is infected, but last for at least six months.
