Abnormal heart rate occurs when there is disruption to the electrical conduction system. Two forms of abnormal heart rate are tachycardia and bradycardia. Tachycardia is when the resting heart rate is too high, while bradycardia is when the resting heart rate is too low. Treatments for abnormal heart rate can be the use of pacemakers for bradycardia or defibrillators for patients with tachycardia.
