Heart Failure, Diastolic: Disease Bioinformatics

Diastolic heart failure occurs when one or both ventricles are not working sufficiently during diastole. Diastole is the cardiac cycle phase which is when the heart is relaxing. During this phase the heart is filling with blood that is being returned from the body through the IVC and SVC to the right atrium and from lungs through pulmonary veins to the left atrium. Diastolic heart failure occurs mainly in an elderly person and can be found in a Doppler echocardiography. Generally, no specific treatment may be indicated; rather, therapy should be the main practice to treat this condition.
