Cancer Of Nasopharynx: Disease Bioinformatics

The nasopharynx is the upper part of the pharnyx (throat) that is located directly behind the nose. Nasopharynx cancer commonly begins in the squamous cells that line the part of the throat behind the mouth known as the oropharynx. Risks for developing nasopharynx cancer increase with a chinese or asian ancestry and exposure to the Epstein-Barr virus. Treatments for nasopharynx cancer are radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, biologic therapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy. There are four stages of nasopharynx cancer and treatment for the cancer will depend on which stage the cancer is as stages measure cancer progression.
