Cancer of the ear is very rare and can be segmented into cancer of the inner, middle, or outer ear. Outer ear cancer begins as skin cancer (accounting for 5% of all skin cancers), typically on the top of the ear called the helix. Cancers that originate in the ear are much less common and their cause is unknown. There are four main types of ear cancer: melanoma, adenocarcinoma, adenoid cystic, and basal cell cancer. Diagnosis of ear cancer must be performed using a biopsy and with a follow-up MRI or CT scan if necessary. Treatments for ear cancer depend on the location of its origination, yet surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are common treatments.
