Brain Oligodendroglioma: Disease Bioinformatics
Brain oligodengrogliomas are a type of primary brain tumors that originate from the oligodendroctye cells in the brain and primarily affect adults. The cause of this type of tumor is unknown, although the CFH gene is thought to be related to this disorder. In the majority of cases, seizures are one of the symptoms of a brain oligodengroglioma, along with a change in personality, headaches, and depending on the exact location of the tumor, other neurological problems such as vision and motor skill impairments and cognitive loss. There can be low grade and high grade forms of brain oligodengrogliomas, where high grade signifies a malignant tumor. The median survival time for a low grade case is 11.6 years, while that of the high grade case is only 3.5 years, and the oligodengrogliomas are typically considered incurable.
