A brain germinoma is a germ cell tumor (GCT) that occurs outside of the gonads and is made up of undifferentiated cells. The tumors can be either benign or malignant. The tumors in brain are typically located in the hypothalamic or hypophyseal regions. The peak range of onset occurs in patients between 10 and 19 years of age. There is a 90% five-year survival rate in patients who are diagnosed with this disease, and total resection is often not necessary, as craniospinal radiation is almost always an effective treatment.
