Amebic Appendicitis: Disease Bioinformatics

Amebic Appendicitis starts out as amebiasis (an infection of the large intestine) and is a rare cause of acute appendicitis. Amebic appendicitis is most common in tropical climates and areas with poor sanitation. An Amebic Appendicitis presents the same symptoms as an acute appendicitis (fever and severe pain in the lower abdomen). It may be treated by an appendectomy, but often, that type of procedure is unnecessary.
