Acute Rheumatic Fever With Valvulitis: Disease Bioinformatics

Acute Rheumatic Fever is a disease that stems from an infection with A Streptococcus bacteria and can affect many parts of the body including the heart, joints, and brain. Infections with these bacteria begin as strep throat or scarlet fever and evolve into Acute Rheumatic Fever if they are not treated. Most common in children between the ages of 5 to 15, the symptoms of Acute Rheumatic Fever with Valvulitis include chest pain and heart inflammation. Valvulitis is the inflammation of the heart valves which is a common complication of Acute Rheumatic Fever. Commonly occurring in developing countries, Acute Rheumatic Fever with Valvulitis is treated with surgery to repair or replace heart valves. Because of the common occurrence in developing countries, access to medical procedures is limited; subsequently, many children die of heart failure from Acute Rheumatic Fever with Valvulitis each year.
