Neuronal Stem Cell Markers
Functionally, stem cells are able to propagate and generate additional stem cells, and can differentiate into various progenitor cells which further mature along specific lineages. Stem cell markers allow for the identification and isolation of stem cells in different types of tissues and cell populations. Nestin has been the most extensively used marker to identify CNS stem cells within various areas of the developing nervous system and in vitro cultured cells.
