Caspase 3 Products
Caspase 3 (CASP3) is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family that is involved in the execution-phase of cell apoptosis.
There are two classes of caspases involved in apoptosis; initiators (activation by receptor cluster) and effectors (activation by mitochondrial permeability transition). Caspase 3 is considered an effector, as it is activated in the apoptotic cell both by extrinsic (death ligand) and intrinsic (mitochondrial) pathways. Specifically, procaspase is activated when the procaspase is cleaved at a particular residue. Activated Caspase 3 then cleaves numerous substrates to effect the morphological changes associated with apoptosis.
Caspase 3 antibodies are important tools for apoptosis studies and research on the caspase family mediated apoptosis signaling pathway.
