XRCC4 (X-ray cross complementation protein-4) is an essential component for DNA double strand break repair and V(D)J recombination. The XRCC4 gene encodes a 38kDa protein that is ubiquitously expressed and contains no sequence similarity to any previously described protein. Recent experiments have shown that XRCC4 directly interacts with DNA ligase IV implicating a possible role in DNA-end joining.
