Applications:

Uses:	This antibody is useful for Western Blot where a band is seen at ~18 kDa. The strong band at 50 kDa and smear of bands that run between 46 kDa and 50 kDa are glycosylated and non-glycosylated forms of pro-lysyl oxidase. Bands between 28-36 kDa are glycosylated propeptide. The variation in MW depends on the extent of glycosylation. This antibody is also useful for immunohistochemistry-Paraffin and immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence.

Background:

Lysyl oxidase (LOX) is an extracellular enzyme that is critical for the normal biosynthesis of collagens and elastin. LOX is synthesized as a 50 kDa precursor, secreted into the extracellular matrix and subsequently proteolytically processed to a 30 kDa active enzyme and an 18 kDa propeptide. LOX also reverts ras-mediated transformation and its expression is down-regulated in human cancers. Most recently, the lysyl oxidase pro-peptide (LOPP) has been associated with tumor suppression, as it inhibits ras-dependent cellular transformation.
