Bile Acid Receptor NR1H4 is a receptor for bile acids such as chenodeoxycholic acid, lithocholic acid and deoxycholic acid. It represses the transcription of the cholesterol 7 alpha hydroxylase gene and activates the intestinal bile acid binding protein. The NR1H4 gene encodes a protein that has a central role in lipid homeostasis and also regulates carbohydrate metabolism.
