Background: Erk1 / extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 / p44 MAP kinase /
microtubule-associated protein 2 kinase / myelin basic protein kinase / EGF receptor T669 kinase is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues and cells. It gets activated by phosphorylation of neighbouring serine and threonine residues by Mek 1 and Mek2 in response to diverse stimuli like growth factors and mitogens.
