Background:

This gene is deleted in the primary tumor of hepatocellular carcinoma. It maps to 8p22-p21.3, a region frequently deleted in solid tumors. It is suggested that this gene is a candidate tumor suppressor gene for human liver cancer, as well as for prostate, lung, colorectal, and breast cancers. Alternative splicing at this locus results in several transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq]. Transcript Variant: This variant (2) has a novel 5' end exon compared to transcript variant 1, resulting in a shorter isoform (2) with a different N-terminus compared to isoform 1. Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Entrez Gene record to access additional publications.
