Background: Expression of bcl-2a oncoprotein has been shown to inhibit the programmed cell death (apoptosis). In most follicular lymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of bcl-2a protein, whereas the normal or hyperplastic germinal centers are negative.
