The 58K Golgi Protein is one of the most commonly used Golgi markers. It is known to associate with the PLC gamma 1-PKC epsilon complex which leads to differentiation of certain myoblasts. It also interacts with forminotransferase cyclodeaminase and Sycl1, which is important for Golgi homeostasis during neurodegenerative events. In melanoma, autophagomes generated to feed and enhance melanoma progression display a high concentration of the 58K Golgi protein, probably as a result of ER stress. In colon cancer 58K Golgi Protein co-localizes with collagen XI, and seems to be a promising marker for immunohistopathology studies of colon cancer. Finally, the 58K Golgi protein seems to interact with growth hormone in normal circumstances; however, when growth hormone is misfolded, the interaction is ablated and the Golgi apparatus can become fragmented and incapable of normal ER-Golgi trafficking.
Immunocytochemistry: 58K golgi protein Antibody (58K-9) - Golgi Complex Marker [NB600-412] - 58k golgi protein antibody was tested at 1:50 in HeLa cells with FITC (green). Nuclei and actin were counterstained with Dapi (blue) and Phalloidin (red).
